There are various types of surgeries performed to diagnose, stage and treat different types of cancers. Some of the most common surgeries include curative surgery that involves removal of cancerous tumor, preventive surgery that aims at removing adjacent tissues surgery that determines presence of cancerous cells, staging surgery that uncovers the extent of cancer that has spread in the body. This process includes laparoscopic procedure to access the tissue sample.

The debulking surgery aims at removing the portion of the cancerous area and not removing the entire tumor to prevent damage to the organ. Palliative surgery is performed to treat cancer at advanced stages in conjunction with supportive surgery. As a followup to these surgeries, restorative surgery is performed to restore the affected part in its appearance and function
