More About Laparoscopic Burch Repair

The main aim of performing this surgery is to restore the normal position of the pelvis and improve stress urinary incontinence thus allowing effective control of urinary function. The procedure is comparatively safer than other procedures and is carried out by placing two bilateral nonabsorbable sutures through pubocervical fascia, one at the level of mid urethra and other at the urethrovesical junction and the surgery carried out thereafter. However, prior to the actual surgery, certain precautions have to be taken before commencement of the surgery. For instance, patients who smoke have to quit smoking at least two weeks before the procedure and a night before that, light meals have to be consumed.

The operation is relatively less time consuming and tedious but requires continuous post op care and precautions to be taken. Our team of specialists makes sure that we guide the patient from time to time about post surgical preventive measures and maintain follow up regularly.

Apart from the classic laparoscopic techniques, we also adopt the new age methods of carrying out the Burch procedure which involve the use of alternatives like stapling devices, mesh placement, bone anchors and even fibrin glue to reduce complexity of traditional approach and decrease the operating time.
