Instrumental Delivery

Performing instrumental vaginal deliveries is still an integral part of obstetrics and is carried out frequently at most obstetric centres. Instrumental delivery is also called forcep delivery and is a type of assisted vaginal delivery and is performed at the time of normal childbirth or vaccum delivery. At our centre, we have trained obstetricians and auxiliary staff that assist in forcep deliveries. Obstetric forceps are the instruments that are used for performing forcep deliveries. Vaccum cups and suction device are used for vaccum deliveries.

More About Instrumental Delivery

In this procedure, a healthcare professional or a surgeon applies forcepts to the baby’s head to help guide the baby out of the birth canal. The process is done at the time of contraction when the mother pushes out and is done to assist the mother in pushing if the labor is not progressing as it should and there is a delay in baby’s arrival through the birth canal. Similarly, vaccum pulls are applied to baby’s head to aid fast delivery by expert obstetrician.

It can also be done in cases wherein the baby’s heartbeats suggest a problem, or the baby is facing the wrong direction or the there is an emergency health problem.

These deliveries may pose harm to mother and baby both if adequate precaution is not taken. We understand this and therefore we have a highly skilled team of obstetricians to perform this procedure. Outlet forceps are the most commonly used forceps.
