More About Laparoscopic Removal Of Pelvic Retroperitoneal Mass

Retroperitoneal growths usually require surgical exploration for diagnosis and treatment and therefore the laparoscopic method of removing retroperitoneal mass is being practiced widely in the last few years. The success of these surgeries is high as compared to traditional methods, there is minimal blood loss and postoperative complications are also reduced as compared to older methods of surgery. Laparoscopic approach is thus very feasible and it offers a viable and complete radical option with very low morbidity. Generally a standard surgical technique is used to perform this wherein the patient is in a full flank position, the lesion side being upwards and a pneumoperitoneum is established by open technique. Additional trocars are placed in the upper abdomen, the retroperitoneal space is accessed by colon mobilization, the findings are then dissected from adjacent structures and the mass is detached with adequately wide margins. The technique is less time consuming and also requires short hospital stay.
